We came, we saw, we had an exhibition! The venue was stunning, a light and airy barn, just north of Rugby, in a village called Houlton.
There were three of us; we met working as fashion writers for a well known brand, and as we were writing into the night, dressing up in the clothes (or was that just me) we spoke about our love of words and art. Kindred spirits.
And so, we decided to exhibit. I've been doing a lot of painting recently, so it was a chance to give those a whirl alongside some of my tried and trusted photography! I think it's good to feel a little scared sometimes and step into a daunting, yet doable space.
My go to place is nature and so botanicals came to the fore. I love to add little words and phrases into my art, it just seems to fit somehow. I'm thinking of making a bold move to Cornwall soon, so their were seascapes to inspire and motivate me too.
We called it Raw, as Tanya and Maren, my partners in crime, make beautiful art and we are all inspired by the 'raw-ness' in nature in all it's forms, be that the body or the natural world. Feminists one and all, we wanted to celebrate women (and not just ourselves!) and we hoped our work reflected the many myriad forms that takes.
It felt a very special exhibition, we very much drove it. We choose a unique space. We just did it. Sometimes I think the 'just doing it' approach is the best. After this exhibition, I felt a real sense of achievement and how wonderful to share that with my strong, baddass friends.
