Well, I was pretty thrilled to be shortlisted for my short story by the lovely folk at Stratford Words, but to win was an unexpected pleasure. I did a victory lap around the garden, the kitts were a little bemused!
It's a strange little tale really. It is about freedom, adventure and our journey through this crazy wonderful thing called life. I wanted to write about the elements and make the leading character very much part of the landscape.
The untamed wild island of Svalbard was my inspiration. I've been lucky enough to visit this incredible place and wanted to write about it - I did of course include a polar bear!
I hope it wasn't sentimental or cliche. It is, it is, it is.
Thrilled to announce that I've been asked to read my poem on Stratford Welcombe radio on the 29th July from 4pm-5pm. If you fancy a little break, I'll put on my best reading voice - you can listen and find out more here: http://www.welcomberadio.co.uk/
I was awarded my prize, live on air yesterday at Fab Fest in Stratford which was a great treat. My story is also going to be published by the wonderful Sophie Clauson in the beautiful Love, hope and peace journal.
